MON-04 · Playback
This is what Renata can make.
Five finished tracks, composed in Renata and played back on its own emulated chips: the Atari ST’s YM2149, a Commodore 64 SID and a Game Boy DMG.
Nothing here is sampled from anyone else’s record. Press play and judge it for yourself.
Renata Studio, running silently. Press a track and this glass becomes an oscilloscope.

Composed by Renata’s Song Generator, a rule-based composer with tables learned from public chiptune archives. You can use the generated tunes as they are, or edit them as you wish. Renata runs entirely on your machine, and within a version of Renata the same seed and the same settings compose the same song every time. Part of a set of a hundred. Seventy-five of them are free. Leave an email below and I’ll send you the link.

Forty years of chip music, as a starting point.
Turn a SID, NES, or Amiga tune into DAW-ready MIDI, clean per-voice stems, or a sample pack, in one click.
Re-voice it on another chip: Renata re-performs the notes through the target chip’s own voice.
Diagram. A source tune’s melody splits into two outputs. The MIDI output keeps every note at its original pitch and position. The re-voiced chip output keeps the same notes, but re-performs them in the target chip’s own articulation: holding notes are retriggered and long notes are broken up.
Eight musical outputs. Seven chip formats. One hub.
MIDI is the hub. Every conversion passes through it. The other seven are chip formats, four of them real programs for the machine itself.

Renata’s own names for its own designs, drawn from the era of the home computers and consoles this music grew up on. They are affiliated with no hardware or console manufacturer, and built on free-licensed fonts. Faceplate is the design you are reading now, and it becomes Renata’s default theme; the other eight are all still there to switch to.

Renata is finished and on sale. If you would rather hear it before you buy it, leave an email and I’ll send you 75 Renata-composed tracks: four and a half hours of music, free for anything you make. If you have any questions, or comments, I’m happy to answer.
One-time purchase. No subscription. Renata is out now on itch.io, $10, about £8. There are also 35 royalty-free sample packs, 7,000 one-shots across seven chips, $7 each.
Renata is built by me, Mark Wright, in my limited spare time. The app itself runs entirely on your machine and sends nothing anywhere: no accounts, no cloud, no AI in the audio path. AI tools help me with artwork and some of the writing around the project, never with the app or its audio.
